The Road From Luxor to Hurghada

Theres are some views we saw while traveling by van to Hurghada, which is on the Red Sea. It was pretty much rural Egypt with a few small towns thrown in. Every few miles for the first half of the trip we had to stop at a checkpoint manned by guys with really old guns (looked like old shotguns). It seemed like a bit of a make work program, but maybe they have good reason for this system.
This is a donkey cart by an irrigation canal. Most of the crops were corn and were being tended by hand.
Here's two workers having a chat by the side of the field. You can tell they are guys because they are wearing white, women would be wearing black.
Here we are in a small town. The guy is just waiting for the bus (we assume) while the woman could be returning from the market.
Many of the houses had roofs made of straw. Some other buildings had big piles of straw on the top level. We don't know if this was the roof or just straw being dried.

We stopped at the way station called Kilo 85 (for kilometer 85 on the way to Hurghada) and we did some involuntary shopping. The sellers were pretty aggressive. Jacob did a great job negotiating a necklace. Craig actually did not buy this headdress. The seller just dressed him in it and assumed that would close the sale.

This is for Amy Figg. We saw it at the Kilo 85 bazaar. See how far UK reaches!
